Gatchacaz's Unown Sampler 2011 ... DONE!!!

In the end, it didn't take half as long as I thought it would!

I'm really pleased with the way this turned out. The shading affect doesn’t look as noticeable on some Unowns as it does on others, but I think this has more to do with the density of the fills more than anything else.

My fiance really likes this and wants me to get it framed, but that might have to wait a while as I can't afford to buy stitchy supplies, let alone get work framed!

It's frustrating when you have new ideas and stuff you want to work on, but in a way it allows me to complete all those odds and sods that have been in my work bag for a while.

I'll have a post on my current WIPs later in the week, but whilst were on the subject of completed projects, I've just finished my WipEout Pilot Logo for AG-Systems Lead Pilot -- John Dekka:

I love the boldness of this deisgn and the simple colour pallette, but it seriously depleted my stocks of orange and black...LOL!!!  The next pilot in the series is AG-Systems second pilot, 'Daniel Chang', which also uses lots of orange .... mm, I can see a trip to the thread shop coming up!!!

Gatchacaz's Unown Sampler 2011 -- WIP03

It's been a long and very shitty week ... but more on that another time!

First, I noticed today when I logged in that I have some more followers, so welcome to you guys!  Also, I have changed my email address.  Due to the dire state of our finances at present, my partner and I have had to change internet provider this week.  Getting a new email address is not necessarily a bad thing until you realise just how many different websites and stuff your email is registered with and that you will need to get this amended -- it took me ALL morning yesterday to sort it out, and it drove me nuts!

Anyway, my new email address can be accessed by clicking on the "email" link on my profile page!  If any of you have corresponded with me via email, be sure to amend your address books!

So now to the update regarding my Unown Sampler ... I realise that there's been a bit of a hiatus since I last worked on this.  Now that I have sufficient thread, I can finish this.  Over the past four days, I have been working on this quite a bit, and here's what I've managed to accomplish:

I don't expect to do another WIP for this project -- since taking this photo, I have finished the "C" and the "H" is almost completed too.

Gatchacaz's Unown Sampler 2011 -- WIP02

WOW, what a crazy couple of days it's been!!!

Us Brits have been enjoying an extended weekend thanks to the Royal Wedding and today's Bank Holiday.  Tomorrow everything will get back to normal, which will be nice in a way because I've been losing track of the days lately!

Thursday evening I went down to my sister's house at RAF Shawbury in Shropshire with my brother and fiance.  We stayed overnight and on Friday we watched the Royal Wedding before having a BBQ to celebrate.

Most importantly, it didn't rain ... AT ALL!!!  Which goes against the grain when it comes to British Bank Holiday weekends!  Easter had great weather, and this weekend has been fabby too!  Mother Nature clearly dildn't get the memo about April showers ... LOL!!!

Oh well, I'm sure we'll make up for it later in the summer, but for now I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts!

Anyway, despite all the socialising, I have been finding time to stitch, and the Sampler is coming on quite well ...

Good news though, my benefits got paid early due to the long Bank Holiday weekend, and I've had a bit of an increase so I've been able to place an order with Sew and So today to stock up on thread!  YAY *does happy dance*

Tomorrow, my local thread shop will be open again and I will be able to purchase some more thread for another project that is threatening to stall.

Oh, and tomorrow is also Fluff-o-Rama update day, so until then...

As suspected, I will shortly run out of thread (in fact, you can see from the last pic just how much thread I have left)!

I will probably be able to do one more WIP before I run out completely.  After that, I dunno when I will be able to finish it because I can't afford to order any threads at the moment and May is going to be an expensive month for me!

Still, I do at least have other WIP's that I can work on in the meantime, so it's not all bad.

** NEW BLACKWORK PROJECT ** Gatchacaz's Unown Sampler 2011

Hello again!

So it's time for another work in progress, but first, I should probably welcome more new followers that I've picked up over the last few weeks -- Welcome indeed, I hope you enjoy reading about my stitchy antics!

And now let's get down to business!!!

Last month, to celebrate the release of Pokemon Black and White, I posted patterns for the Unowns.

I was planning to use them as part of a Pokemon design I was working on -- which sadly I had to abandon because the design would have been HUGE!!!  However, I thought they'd make a good idea for a sampler.

As always, I wanted to do something in blackwork, and inspiration for the project came from a book that I had borrowed from my local library:

The book is an absolute gem as it gives a detailed history of all the different embroidery techniques featured, as well how to's and projects of varying difficulty to try yourself.  When I have the money I plan to buy it for myself!

I borrowed the book predominantely for the blackwork section as inspiration for another project that I hope to do at some point this year!  However, the lead page of the blackwork section shows the word "Blackwork", worked in blackwork, using a different fill in varying thread thickness for each letter:

I thought this was a great idea for a sampler.  So I decided to use my online name "Gatchacaz" and set about chosing different fills before charting the Unowns.

That was the easy part, although as I've said on many occassion before, charting in blackwork is very time consuming -- here is the finished chart:

The black lines represent two strands and the blue represents 1 strand.  The finished piece is being charted on 14-HPI rustico aida using DMC Colour variation #4210.

It's proving really quick to stitch, and shouldn't take that long to complete, but my concern is that I will run out of thread as I don't think I have enough to complete the project.  I cannot buy more thread unless I put in an on-line order (which I can't afford to do at the moment), so this could well be a project that grinds to a halt in a few weeks time!

I'll post new updates over the coming weeks -- be sure to cross your fingers that my thread doesn't run out!!!
